Continue reading »]]> After keeping busy in snow less California in late Dec and early Jan I was ready to be reunited with some Winter weather. Who would of thought I had to go back to the Eastcoast to do that? Even though Vermont isn’t having the best of seasons like much of the country, it was something to work with for sure… I was actually surprised on how good of a base there actually was at higher elevations. There were not many big storms coming through. A couple short rain events created some crust layers, but that wasn’t going to scare me off.. We received a fair amount of consistent smaller storms producing a couple inches here and there and with some help of the wind things were not as bad as many may have thought.. Sometimes you just have to go up for yourself to find out what its like, you might just be in for a treat even though there is no snow just a couple miles down the road. As I get ready to head out to Japan for my next adventure this Winter, I look back on the few weeks I spent in Vermont and I am happy with what I achieved. I made the best of it and leaving with a smile on my face.

Continue reading »]]> When my friend Greg Vautour asked if I wanted to go paragliding on his day off, it didn’t take me long to come up with an answer. He called up his friend Kari Castle, a World Champion Pilot and the next thing I knew we were headed to Bishop, CA to meet up with her. She is a terrific teacher and really fun to hang out with.. It takes a lot of ground practice and work before your feet even leave the ground. Location is Little Flynn in Bishop California.

Continue reading »]]> Mammoth Mtn puts a lot of pride and work into their parks and Mammoth breeds some of the best park riders there are. I am not a huge jibbing fan, but what some of these guys and gals can do is pretty amazing. There were kids as young as 7 throwing down just as good as some of the big boys. Their park crews dial there jumps in very nice. With the lack of snow here I am very very impressed on how well the this event turned out. Anyway I decided to take a few pictures since the riding else where on the mountain is just getting boring with no fresh snow. Enjoy!

Continue reading »]]> With the lack of snow in the Sierras, Tioga Pass into Yosemite National Park has been open. I took advantage of the nice weather and decided a short backpack in the park would be a great way to start off the New Year. And a good way to cure my hangover from NYE. I was blown away by the views from up there and could not have found a better place to set up camp. With Half Dome in my face right on the other side of the valley, I got many many shots of it. You could also see pretty far into Yosemite Valley.

Continue reading »]]> Mammoth has had a real slow start to Winter this season…REAL SLOW… Its the end of December and there is no natural snow to ski/ride on.  The snowmakers at the mountain have done a great job however getting terrain open for the holiday crowds.  I’ve found that the best time to make some turns has been the first hour of being open.  No lift lines, no crowds on the trail and fresh corduroy.  Hopefully mother nature will get on board soon.  All eyes on the middle of the month for Winter to hopefully make its way to the Sierra.  Until then, keep doing your snow dance and take what you can get.  Here is a short bootcam clip enjoying some early morning groomers before the crowds.

Before this years feast with my parents I was happy to meet up with some friends and make some turns up at Smugglers’ Notch Resort. It was a great way to start off the day and work up my appetite.

So my first turns of the season are out of my system, a much needed fix. With very little snow in Northern VT we were forced to explore and head south. We left the North country Sunday morning still not sure where we wanted to try and ski, we just knew we had to start heading South to get to the snow, so we did.. After getting some good reports from Rob Wolfe at Sunapee we decided that was going to be our destination since they got hit pretty good from the storm. Three fun laps later we all had huge smiles on our faces and stoked on our choice for the day.. Sunapee turned out to be the perfect mtn for what we had in mind.. Thank you Rob for helping us decide where to go. Good Times with good people and powder turns. Can’t complain, it was a great way to start the season off.. Now on to the pictures.

The 2010/2011 Winter Season was one of my best. It didn’t matter where I traveled to ski/ride, I had awesome powder everywhere I went.. Even when I was back home in Vermont between my ski travels out West it snowed and snowed. This video is a collection of shots that I got during the time I was back East . Everyone thinks of the East as the ice-coast and there is never any good snow to be had. I make these edits every year, just to prove them wrong.

I haven’t done much fly fishing in my day, but after a couple hours on the water with Dalton I am pretty sure its something I’ll enjoy doing more of in the future. Hope you enjoy the pics… -Chris
